Ipê is a strong and very heavy tropical hardwood from the Caribbean and Mexico. It’s dense, strong and has a close grain making it very durable.

Uses: Ipê is commonly used for decking and flooring.

Advantages:

  • resistant to warping and bending
  • highly resistant to wear and tear

Disadvantages:

  • high tannin content and exposure to wet and cold weather can react with oil finishes
  • very heavy wood
