Characteristics:
Comprising around 65 species, Ash is very dense, tough and strong whilst benefitting from good elasticity and is popular for woodworking because it takes polishes and stains very well.

Uses:
Furniture, tools, panelling, veneers

Advantages: 

  • tough and resilient
    • straight grained and flexible
    • even colour with some species having attractive patterns
    • stains and polishes well

Disadvantages:

  • very pale in colour, can be prone to warp if exposed to sunlight
